Broadband - be careful what you take out

Whilst trying to re-instal Windows 95 on an old PC (not finished yet!) I borrowed the DVD player from my XP machine. I took it out with the PC on standby, thinking that without re-booting it would not be missed. Somehow the missing DVD did affect Broadband however, with much flashing of amber arrows and modem link light! And no connection!

When I refitted the DVD and re-booted, problem solved.

Be careful, out there!

Apart from USB and firewire, you should never disconnect anything from the box whilst its still powered up - even on stand-by. Even more so, you should never interfere with the inner workings. Most recommend that you even disconnect the power cable before opening the box - I prefer to leave it connected so that I'm properly earthed, but the power MUST be off.

A lot of people dont realise you should never never unplug your monitor cable with the power on. Doing this can easily fry your graphics card.
