hi there -

we are looking to get a broadband provider into our flat - we currently have no working phone line - BT want a nice bit of cash to set up phone line but we will not be using it for phone calls - just broadband - is anybody aware of a broadband provider that works as the provider of the phone line as well - so we would only have the one set up fee and line rental?

Virgin might set you up with no phone line.

If you can get cable as X™ has suggested they will supply Broad Band without phone line.

Talk Talk from car phone warehouse

PS but you have to have a BT line

Don't you think everyone would do it?

Seriously though, you need a connection to the local exchange. I believe BT is the only company that can plumb your flat into the network at a local level.

Like x said Virgin will do it but I think that you have to take the phone line as well. But it is a lot cheaper than BT.I don,t think that there is any charge for installing the broadband or telephone.

click here have a look .They do special deals for new customers,Maybe because they can't hold on to their old ones.

woodchip's point is quite valid regarding TalkTalk as the International2 package at £16.39 all in includes the BT line rental.

However, you would obviously still need to set up a BT phone line; the initial cost would be gradually recouped by the saving on paying for an individual broadband service on top of the line rental.

I have a Inspiron 1501 Laptop with an Athlon 64*2 TK53 (1.7Ghz,512) and 2*512 533Mhz DDR2 SDRAM. I currently have Windows Vista Basic. Would I benefit from upgrading to 2*1024 ram? I currently use it for a bit of gaming (not high speed high quality graphics)but I am going to use it for downloading video and creating video on it.
