Both CD/DVD drives wont write

  aca 14:46 23 Jun 2004

Have 2 combination CD-Rom(1 can read DVD) drives that should be able to write(and have worked) to cd-r. Now using Nero they both dont recognise blank media and open tray asking me to insert blank disk. Working under XP Professional.

cant track back any changes that I have made.

Have tried:-

unistalling and reinstalling drives via Device Manager
uninstall and reinstall NERO
installed system ASPI via Force
restarted IMAPI service
tried using other burning software

apart from using XP repair utility and a suggestion that Adaware may remove a potential spyware cause I am running out of ideas...

Could be down to the blank disks you insert. I had some a while ago which were different colours and when I got to the Pink ones they did not work and it spit them out. Can you try the disks on another machine???

It is possible two conflict. So if you want to use Nero (get the latest version), it is better to disable XP's CD writing function. My Computer, CD Driver, Right Click, Select Property, Select CD-Recording and Untick XP's Buildin CD writing function.

just tried different brand in one of the drives and it worked. Still no joy with other but will try one of my disks in different machine.

Looking more like disks and maybe lense cleaning?
