Bootup screen

I use 98SE. I have always put my own picture as a background to the desktop but recently I decided to change it. Now, when I boot up, I get the picture before the icons appear, then when they do appear, the background goes to a plain colour and eventually back to the picture.
How can I stop the plain screen appearing?

I think thid happens when Active Desktop is enabled. If the picture you want requires Active Desktop, but you don't want this feature, simply open the picture in Paint, and use thr "Save as" feature to save it as a bitmap to C:\Windows, giving it a unique name. When you go to the Desktop tab in Display Propeties it will be available for you to select.

Thanks Buscrew. It was the Desktop set to Active Desktop that caused the problem,
