on hard or soft reboot I always get" One of your disks needs to be
checked for consistency....." message
When finished, Windows loads in but immediatelly does a reboot
This gets into a loop until I press F5
& then I have to always choose 'last known best configuration' etc
to avoid this 'loop'

WINDOWS XP Home Edition
AMD Athlon 1.2 ghz with ATX motherboard
256mb PC133 SD ram

chhers for any help

Try running scannow, it just might fix the problem ... click here

I would suggest that you run either chkdsk /f, which will check you disk for basic errors, or chkdsk /scannow which will do a more thorough check.
Note the space in both cases between chkdsk and /

Part of the problem may be that you have a very low specification machine with (I'm guessing) a small (under 80 gb ) hard drive, which windows is having a problem with.

I guess it is the System files becos i get
System (file) error messages etc

Sadly, Scannow requires insertion of Windows XP disc & i dont have the full version - - only the Upgrade

good advice , tho'
cheers

PS. my Hard Drive is fairly new Maxtor 80g
