corrupt XP drive files for the mouse etc.

try a repair

type sfc /scannow

in the run box XP will scan for and replace missing or corrupt files.

Yep I would say a Driver problem. You need to check the event viewer

The driver is for the Motherboard, So you need to find what motherboard model that it is, then visit the Manufacturers site for drivers.

It could also be a PCI card, that as been fitted into a slot that upgrades the MOBO to more specifications like SATA, Card Reader, etc
