boot up probs cpu hanging

P4 2ghz processor, xp home

Over the last two days I've been having boot up probs. When I boot up, I can hear the HDD start, lights flash on cd-rom and key board, then nothing. My monitor just flashes at me saying no signal!

I have to keep turning the computer on and off, until it decides it wants to play, then it tells me that the cpu has hung, due to wrong bios/speed settings? And give me the Bios screen!

I find this strange because I haven't touched any settings in Bios at all!

But I have had a USB card reader connected, and last time I booted, after several adtemps to get computer started, I discounnected this and it booted first time, could this be my problem, or something else?

The card reader has been connected for over a week now, at first giving no probs?
