Hello all. Please help me out here. My pc running Win98SE had a very noisy operation for a while. Yesterday morning when I put it on,it failed to come on. Instead there was a burnuing stench inside; I found that stench was from right inside the power supply. I removed the power supply and replaced it today. I turned the pc on, it responded ok, but then it couldn't detect any of the drives. It said NONE to all the drives. Then below was a message PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE. I did that and then it said BOOT DISC FAILUE. INSERT.....................
I noticed when I put it on for the first time that all the drives came on; they were all alive. Sadly the CDROM drive was inoperative even though it showed ON. What's going on? Pls help.

Try using windows startup disk in the floppy slot, you might just be lucky to reach the A:> prompt.

If you do, then type DIR C: and see what you get.
Unless you can see your C: drive directory its beginning to look as though a major part of the motherboard died with the PSU
