BLuetooth Printer connection

Hi Not sure if this should be in here or the networking forum, but here goes.

I am going to buy the Canon Pixma IP6220D printer. The printer has the ability to receive commands via bluetooth if I purchase a separate adapter - the Canon BU-20 bluetooth adapter.

My question is this - If I buy an alternative to the BU20 would it still work with the printer??, ie a Belkin bluetooth adapter at half the cost. I appreciate that I need to have 2 adapters (one on the pc and one on the printer).

Any help welcome.

Bluetooth was designed with interoperability in mind, however there are different versions and profiles. I see the BU-20 explicitly states it is Bluetooth 1.2 and the Belkin adaptor is 1.1 compatible so there is a real chance they wont work but never having tried it.......

Thanks eticnes

According to the misco website (where I saw the belkin adapter) the belkin is backwards compatible with 1.1 and 1.2

I was going to buy 2 of the belkin to work together anyway. My main worry was whether the belkin would would with the printer as like you i have never tried this??

If no-one else has any ideas, i may just take the plunge and see if itworks.
