blue screen with Windos checking disk

Having made the decision to replace my 6 year old Evesham desktop it has taken offence and this morning I had a blue screen telling me that the disc needed checking, various files were unreadable and it was 'deleting corrupt attribute list entry with type code 128. No idea of the outcome as I had to leave it to go to work. As I have no idea what this means how long do I have before it dies completely?

It will probably have sorted itself by the time you get back provided you left disk checking running.

Let us know if it comes up with any other errors and we can advise further.

Thanks Fruit Bat
You were right on one point. It had sorted itself out by the time I get home but froze later in the evening. This morning I got a warning telling me to back up data as 'hard drive failure imminent. I think that says it all. Thanks for your help anyway
