Blue ray

Help please, I know nothing about blue ray and didnt want to but out of the blue a problem could be solved by someone sending me a very large program on blue ray.
I have a good HP Pavillion Laptop, 4GB Ram, loads of HDD
What do I need in cheapest form to buy and connect an external player to the laptop.
I only need to read and select files, dont have to write to it, not interested in films or music just want to read data. I assume there are external USB versions havent been into it yet.

Just think there must be a way to get the data via dvd disk rather than blu ray

Cn you explain further?

However, if you really need to go the blu ray route you'll find an external player to link to your computer is going to start around the £60/£70 mark
