My start up is blocking 2 programs:

Adobe update manager
Microsoft R Works Update Detection

Is it OK to run them!?

I no reason why not collinsc.

Yes it is ok to run them, the reason they were turned off is they normally increase the pc startup time and you do not really need to check for updates every time you start your pc.

If Vista
Type in the start box
and enter, then select startup, retick the boxes if unticked, apply and ok.
same for xp except

Start/run and type MSCONFIG and enter

You may have blocked these with a prompt from your firewall.

why is it better to do this than just to click accept?

i have tried running these blocked programms and hey appear to run, but whenever i switch the laptop back on they are blocked again!
anyone know why this is?

must i try skidzy's option?

Ms Works: click here

I got it free, pre-installed on HP. It`s pretty easy to see why ... a bit like the cyber version of Mrs Beeton`s Cookbook.

Hi -
I have checked MSCONFIG - and these 2 programmes are ticked - but they still dont open on startup.. i keep getting a msg saying these programms are blocked.

secondly - on the MSCONFIG start up list there is a programm called: "@$%&£$%^%%*(" - not quite...! well basically lots of chinese characters! which is worrying - i dont recognise this...

any suggestions on either?
