Blocked from accessing a particular website??

  de_de 19:00 09 Aug 2006

Today I am having trouble accessing a particular website that I go on virtually everyday. It looks like a problem at 'my end' rather than the site itself.

Now, you may laugh and think I'm a saddo but the site is click here (its a model rail forum site by the way....hangs his head in shame)

I get a window popup which says 'connect to click here' on the title bar, there's a picture of a set of keys, then it says 'hosting.xp', then it's its got a user name and password box.

When I cancel out of this I get the following screen -

You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page due to the access control list (ACL) that is configured for this resource on the Web server.

Please try the following:

Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.
Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials.
HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Technical Information (for support personnel)

Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 401.
Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled About Security, Access Control, and About Custom Error Messages.

I am at a loss to what has happened. Surely a model rail forum site won't have put this block on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Try Allowing the website in IE's Tools>Security tab>Sites (type in the URL and then Allow).

In FF it's Tools>Options>Content tab>Exceptions buttons.

i had this problem with a site in june and when i went to the microsoft knowledge base it would appear that this was a server side error. when i reported it to the site owner he investigated and it was the website server had the problem

Working here now. It must have been a glitch.

Yep sorted now. There's a thread been started on the site about how the sites owner is having all sorts of problems with the hosting company '1&1', since they moved there customer services to India! Aye, sign of the times.

Anyway thanks for replying guys
