Black Screen Of Death After POST but xp still boot

  1234s282 21:06 20 Oct 2007

I have just installed a brand new copy of xp home on my newly purchased hard drive. Installation and activation etc was fine. However , when i boot up my pc , i get a black screen for 30 seconds or so after the PosT test. After the hang , i get the xp boot screen and windows continues to load as normal.

this click here article on gives some solutions.

However , i have used the FIXBOOT and FIXMBR commands from both my XP disc and from a startup disc and i am informed that the MBR was successfully written.

However , i still get the blank screen

Any suggestions?

Nothing wrong with the HDD if windows loads OK.

Suspect NTLDR file do a windows repair to see if that solves the problem.

this Hard Drive is arund 4 years old - is this a sign of it starting to fail?

Check the bios to see if you have a hard drive boot delay setting.

also check that quick boot is enabled, it could be doing a memory check inj the back ground.

Has the bios got SMART ability. If it has, is it enabled?

You state:

"my newly purchased hard drive"

"this Hard Drive is arund 4 years old"

Doesn't quite follow or have I misunderstood?
