BIOS Upgrade?

  miniman79 19:09 21 Aug 2005

Now and again my XP computer will lock up when it goes in to screen saver. The flag will continue to move as normal but when you move the mouse it freezes forcing you to reset the computer.
At first i put this down to the one particular screen saver being corrupt. I recently tried the much praised Ununtu and it did the same?
Any ideas?

You don't need a screen saver these days

Go into your display options and for screen saver select " none"

Not quite sure what this has to do with bios upgrade but more likely to be a display problem. Try re-installing the mouse drivers or reducing hardware acceleration in display options by one notch

It is certainly not down to the BIOS - leave that well alone.

I would run the system file checker. Place your XP CD in the drive and at the run command type SFC /scannow.

I would also run AV and Anti Spyware to rule thsoe out.

Thanks for the advice guy's. There is no spyware on my machine and all drivers are up to date.
Will disable the screen saver and see.
