Bios setup

Is there any set rules for boot up options ie

Mine is first boot Card reader
2nd hdd 1

This is as the pc came.

There was no floopy drive so i fitted a usb external can this act as a boot up device

there are no absolute rules but thought needs to be given as to how to get system up and running if future bootup problems should occur. With a floppy drive this allows insertion of boot-up disc to get to a basic set up program before windows.

Many machines are now shipping without floppy drives so you can in theory set machine so it looks to the cd drive before the hard drive (or any other storage device). The potential for problems arise if it searches the hard drive first and there is a failure in the software hear as it will crash before giving the option of looking at another drive.
