Whilst flashing my 'award' bios an error message was reported on screen. Now my computer will not boot at all. Is there a solution apart from buying another motherboard. Please can anyone help

Have you cleared the cmos.
If that doesnt work have you tried reflashing the bios or wont it even start up for you to do that.

Remove CMOS battery for at least 30 seconds

Can you then boot to BIOS and load default settings?

There are possibly 2 options besides buying a new motherboard. You may be able to buy a new BIOS chip, or get your old one reflashed click here. If your computer is fairly modern your BIOS may have a BOOTBLOCK, in which case if you follow the instructions in this document click here you may be able to boot to a floppy and reflash the BIOS.

'I have removed the battery, but on boot up I get one long beep one short beep followed by two shortish low notes. The monotor light keeps flashing indicating no signal'

I assume you have refitted the battery before rebooting.

Beep codes click here depends on the BIOS maker
Looks like Award BIOS in your case

Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information
