Hi again all.

I have a small problem with my test machine.
Its a small machine with a P4 cpu 512MB of ram running XPH SP3 ,Asrock P4VM890

Ok rebuilt this machine and all was ok,however for some reason i now receive 3 bios beeps on boot up.

This tells me one of two maybe three things;

1) keyboard error - this has been swapped out with three known working keyboards.

2) ram error - ram has been swapped out and dimms alternated = no change.

3) Motherboard could be damaged or blown.

Tomorrow i will swap out the psu and test the original.

Bios has been reset via the jumpers and removal of the cmos battery.

Hard drive is ok as is the cpu.

Anyone any ideas though i think ive covered most things.
All ideas greatly appreciated.

This may help:

You'll need to know who makes the BIOS in your PC (i.e. AMI, Phoenix etc)

Graphics card most likely, take it out and reseat it

Pull all the RAM to check the motherboard - if it doesn't beep at all or gives the same set of beeps as before it's probably finished.

OTT_Buzzard cheers for the link, though had checked all bios beeps prior to posting.

Woody,no Graphics card as onboard.

Brundle, had not tried that, will go and try now.

Cheers guys

The bios beeps certainly point to ram or keyboard controller.

Back in a bit.

Ok,diagnosis is dead mobo.Cheers guys for the help.

Stripped it down now and the bits and bobs will be on Ebay shortly.

This machine is just not worth spending money on,no loss as we have other machines.

Thanks again everyone.

You could try a old Graphics card in a slot
