"The software giant has decided that a forthcoming update to XP will not work with the most widely pirated versions of its operating system. "

Surely it shouldnt work on ANY pirated versions..

It may not affect "real Pirates" because they can work around it.

Only way to prevent Pirate is MS has a "Spy" or "Spy Catch" software build-in and check its licence with a central licence server. If there is a problem, this software will eliminate windows from machine. Of course, many people will not like it, but this is the way to go.

I know some software swill not run without internet connection because the licences are managed real-time online.

>>>Mr Randle said Service Pack 1 for Windows XP worked with both legitimate and pirated versions of the software.<<<

SP1 didn't load with some pirated versions either.

XP is the most pirated version of windows? What was the point of WPA? SP-1 sniffed out the common pirate keys, and disabled the OS.The web was full of hints and tips on changing the key(if they were using a pirated key)There was even an XP Key generator knocking about the web.

XP already needs about 50Mbs of "updates"(not including SP-1)The rate that M$ are going,XP is only going to be usable for those with BB!
