I had a big 250 gig western digital drive before and it was a nightmare trying to get round the lba addressing issue, I had to use a promise PCI controller which im sure caused data corruption and caused the drive to bodge. I also tried another PCI controller to get round this issue but that was also useless.

I wanna desperately get a large hard disk and I've got my eye on the Maxtor Maxline II 300GB 5400 version but i dont want this problem to repeat itself.

I read somewhere that maxtor drives do not suffer from this issue as they have some sort of inbuilt system to get around this problem

Is this true? i dont want to use a pci controller and bios updates, windows updates all that stuff never worked for me i could never access past 137gb of the disk.
