What is the best way to clean a keyboard? I would prefer not to have to dismantle it.

You can buy can's of compressed air & cleaning foam. Compressed air to blow out all the muck and the foam to wash down the keys.

I use a paint brush, turn keyboard upsidedown and brush between keys, works a treat...

Can you use any household cleaning products?

Aerosols - Spray them onto a cloth first and then wipe. They need to be damp but not wet. (Screens & Keyboard)

The paintbrush routine is the first point of call.
