Best laptop for under £400

  Wildblue1972 12:18 27 Jan 2008

Hi folks. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to computer specs and I need some help. I'm about to buy my daughter a laptop and I have no idea which one to go for. I can only go up to £400 max so I guess the choice is pretty limited. I've seen the Samsung R60 going for a good price. What are your thoughts on this one? The laptop will be mainly used for connecting to the internet, doing school-work and occasionally playing games and watching films. I'm more concerned with stable operation rather than top-specs, but if I could have both then I'd be a very happy chap!

If anyone can give me their thoughts on this I'd be very grateful.

this is an excellent laptop for the money. Only gots £390 and you get a 1.46ghz Pentium Dual-Core, 2gb ram, 80gb hard drive and Vista Home Premium. Acer are quite a good manufacturer too from what I have heard.

We have the asus triple e and it's a great portable notebook but the 7" screen is small and with linux installed it does give you much space on the 4Gb flash drive.

If you want a standard laptop then the advent and compaq models above give you a decent model at a reasonable price.

I just bought Fujitsu Amilo PI2515. £399 , 160GB hard drive, 2GB Ram with core 2 duo processer. Really nice screen for films etc. Comet have just reduced their price to match Tesco, click here. Found it on another site for £569!

Have a look at Dell Inspiron 6400. Before end Jan there is a version same price as your yours but with better memory and CPU and bigger hard drive.
