Best laptop for battery life

I'm looking at getting a laptop for uni. I already have a pretty high spec PC for intensive work and gaming, but would like a new laptop which is really good on battery life. How many hours would I be looking at?

I'm not fussed about specs, it will really only be used for document writing and internet browsing, neither of which is hard work on a PC.

Thanks in advance :)

Why would you need to use it on battery at Uni?

My eldest daughter is just coming to the end of a 3-year course at Uni and has always used her laptop from the mains

My sister says that the one thing she should have checked better before buying hers for uni was the battery life. She spends a lot of time on trains where you aren't garanteed a socket, and taking notes in lectures she can't charge it either. This is a laptop for on-the-go, and I don't want to have to worry about mains power when I'm using it.

how much are you willing to spend?

Hopefully no more than 300-350ish. Like I said, specs don't matter.

The EEE pc lasts me about 4hrs which I think is quite long for a laptop.

I had a look at the EEE PC. It looks OK, I quite like the idea of using Linux and the price is good (probably due to Linux). I will definetely consider that one. Cheers gartoye.

Also, I found this one too:
