beneficial downloads???

hi. being fairly new to pc's i was wondering if anyone knew of any decent downloads that would be beneficial to my pc ie: making it run at optimum speed, and making it healthier. i have been on download.com but being a novice i don't really understand what does what. also if anyone knows og any decent fun/gadgety downloads they would be good too. thanks for your help.sean

There are really no downloads that make your PC run at optimum speed or make it 'healthier'.

Your best course of action is up-to-date AV and anti-malware programs (there are plenty of excellent freebies out there).

Also ensure that you undertake some regular, basic PC housekeeping such as defragging, running check disk and clearing out temp and other crap files using something like click here

Be selective. It is easy to clog up your PC by installing too much. Anti-virus is essential.
