batteries do not last

A computer I built for my son every 3or 4 weeks refuses to bootup,
The time reverts to last September and he has to put in a new battery.
Then reset the bios time, and everything works again.
This has happened 4 times since I built it last January.
What could be the cause of the batteries discharging so quickly

On some motherboard there is a jumper to alter so that it does not do what you get, it should be set to the run position for the BIOS, check the manual If that's not the problem then there is something wrong with the board and it needs sending back

The jumper is to clear the CMOS and reset Defaults

Yes but on a lot of new boards they put a jumper to do it. And it is not set to the run position when you get the board. you have to move it to run, or it will keep resetting back to the defaults, and not keep the correct time and year
