base unit only

  politic 23:45 27 Feb 2004

Help! I am running a old clockwork pc, on Windows 98. I am looking for a base unit only, as I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers ,ect.
I want a unit just to play pc,games on, and for surfing the Internet on, nothing else. Do you think I can get this for no more then 500 pounds?
Do you perhaps know a place where I can buy the above from?
Many thanks if you can help.

Perhaps a 'risky' option but for the money may be worth it: click here

get a asus a7n8xe-deluxe motherboard (£70), athlon 2600 xp CPU(£70) 512 ddr pc3200 RAM (£60) radeon 9600 xt 256 graphics card(120). Overclock the processor by increasing the FSB to 400 instead of the default 333, this will give you the performance of a processor costing £180. To do this buy a good fan (cooler master aero 7+) which is another £20. overclocking this chip is easily done and safe but you do need to have a idea of what you are doing. Check out click here for parts and advice on the forums.

Scan of Bolton has the Asus Terminator BareBones offerings on its TodayOnly page until Monday from around £97 to £127 including VAT - choice of AMD or Intel based approach.

It also has the MSI BareBones systems (look under Systems in the Products links) but these are a little more expensive.

All you need to do with the Asus systems is to add a CPU, HDD and memory.
