Bandwidth drain through ICS

I've got internet sharing between two Windows XP machines going at home. When I connect to the internet through the network, there seems to be a severe bandwidth drain for no reason - my computer is downloading MB of data when no programs are running. When I dial up directly from my computer, everything behaves normally. Has anyone got any ideas why this is happening?
