Backup devices

I have a large amount of music files (mostly MP3s) and photos held on a separate drive on my old PC which I did not transfer across to my new PC as they take up so much space.

I would like to save them onto a backup device so that I can view them on my new PC whenever I choose but do not know the best device to use. Can anyone recommend a usb or other easy connection device?

Or you could put the old drive in the new PC and set as slave.

I got someone else to put the second drive in for me and would not know how to do this myself. Am loath to open up new PC in case it invalidates the warranty.
