Backing up the registry

  jop 09:10 27 Feb 2004

Having bought a new windows XP laptop, I'm hoping someone can tell me how to back up the registry and the settings so I can return it to it's original "factory" state in a few months time after all the inevitable installations and uninstallations have slowed things down. Is the system restore function adequate, or is there a better way of doing things? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

click here for all you need to know about backup routines.

The system restore feature is good, but not sufficient by itself.

The only way to really restore your PC to its original factory state would be to use something like Drive Image or Norton Ghost.
