Back up files to DVD - help

  Carafaraday 09:03 22 Jul 2004

I am having trouble backing up files to DVD - works ok to CD.
I am using RecordNow! but have also tried just to drag and drop, or copy without success.
I have turned off AntiVirus stuff when recording.
I have also changed the setting in RecordNow! so that I should be able to add more files at a later date.
Has anyone out there had similar problems with this?

Seems that the DVDs are a bit unstable. Is the most likely thing:-
1. I'm being dumb

1. I am being dumb.
2. Some fault with the DVD's I've bought _ they are the right ones ie DVD + RW
3. Some fault with the drive - it plays cd's and even dvd's ok.
4. is it just that DVD read/writes are unreliable for backing up data?
5. could it be something to do with the fact that I'm setting the DVD's to be appendable?

Why would you want to make an RW. disc
multisession .Assuming you are using XP
are you not getting an error message
"Data error(cyclic redundancy check)

I want to be able to add files as they have been amended, and also new digital photos.

Check in the program you a chosen DVD disc not CD

The problem appears to be that the drive doesn't like 'imation' dvd +RW discs - but is happy with Sony ones.

Just in case anyone else has similar problems... be warned that HP advised me to do a comlete reinstall of the operation system and told me that 'imation' discs would be fine, no problem. If I'd listened to them I would have had to reinstall everything from scratch.
