On carrying out a quick test on AVG 7 Pro I get the following.."Warning....Oject c/windows/system32/shell32.dll change." This is accompanied by a graphic of a rather strange looking figure. A full search on AVG produces the result..."no virus found" Is this an infection of some sort and how do I get rid of it

Sometimes onboard av's either miss a nasty or incorrectly report a problem. It may be best to do an online scan click here for peace of mind.

Thanks Michelle. I have been in touch with AVG and they say it is consequent upon my downloading the recent Windows update. Will do your scan in any case

No problem here using AVG Free after updating; must be a difference between Free and Pro.

Using AVG Free (on XP Home), looking at the detailed test results, both kernel32.dll and shell32.dll are changed - must be the Windows update.
