My avg free version picked up a trojan horse generic 5 bkw .it has placed it in the vault.it attatched its self to a game called command and conquer generals back up file.how do i know its not left bits in my computer as some of my games do not work.

If it is in the virus vault it is safe.
Run AVG again just to check. Then run CCleaner to get rid of your build up of temp files etc.
But you should be safe so dont worry.

I meant to say also that AVG will have moved the infected files so that means that you may need to reinstall the game.

I am a bit nervous about using cc cleaner, when i used something like this before it deleated lots of short cuts to my games!

I use CCleaner all of the time and run it at once a week withot any trouble. Look down the column on the left hand side and UNTICK the cookies entry then your short cuts will be OK
