They are not full working versions though, are they ?

That is why you pay. The free version is feature limited.

What do you mean by "full working version"?

The free version of AVG is a full working version of an anti virus program. It does what it says. I have been using it for quite a few years now and never had any problems with it.

It automatically updates itself when updates are available and it has kept my PC free from virus attack for as long as I can remember.

The only real difference with the paid for version is that you don't get access to the AVG Helpline if you're having technical problems or need advice about clearing infections. Otherwise as pj123 says you get a full working version with automatic updates (a feature often absent from "free" versions).

Configurable scan schedule is missing too

Goodness me, it's free as pj123 it's worked very well for me. I am sure the forum members will advise you of more good free downloads.
