Sorry - I've posted the wrong link. I shall try and find the correct one.

Try this if it's an individual pop-up.

Navigate to your AVG install folder, locate a file called avgfree_us (it'll have a html extension) & rename it to avgfree_us.old

Likewise, navigate to the AVG/Notification folder & rename the upgrade-oportunity-avg85-message1 & upgrade-oportunity-avg85-message2 html files accordingly. G

P.S. It's just something I made up just now, going by similar instructions to prevent pop-ups in another program! I tried the above on my PC with no ill-effects so far. There's no guarantee it'll work to stop the pop-ups, but if there's any problem at all, just rename them to their original file names

This should work

To get rid of the AVG Free 8 pop-up window advertisement:

1 - Go to: C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8

2 - Rename the following 3 files:

avgmwdef_us.mht to avgmwdef_us.mht.bak

avgresf.dll to avgresf.dll.bak

avgfree_us.mht to avgfree_us.mht.bak

If you want to undo the changes, just remove the .bak file extension from all 3 files.

the above is to permanently hide the Notification bar in AVG 8.5

I shall try Crossbow7's "fix" for the nag screen.

  Sea Urchin 12:18 09 Aug 2009

Crossbow7's fix for the AVG pop-up has definitely worked for me - I wonder what karmgord (the op)thinks?

  six-h 15:03 09 Aug 2009

Just tried crossbow's fix and no change, still getting the notification dropdown.
More difficult to know if the pop-up fix has worked, suppose time will tell.
Do I have to re-boot to have them take effect?

I think you'll need to use my "fix" to stop the Notification Bar - worked for me. I had to do the avgfree_us.mht file twice before it took, but no more drop down now.

I have never seen a nag screen with AVG but Sea Urchin's fix has certainly removed the drop down notification.
Thanks for that Sea Urchin.
