Just downloaded, needed restart.

  Stuartli 11:10 12 Feb 2004

That's surprising.

If you click on the AVG icon in the Task Bar, go to the Update Manager tab and then the update button, the update will be downloaded as normal.

Once the download has finished the AVG Control Panel should automatically open and the update installed without a reboot. Once this is finished just close down the Control Panel.

Same as you, update from the update manager and you don't need to restart.

I was prompted to restart and did so

The update for AVG 6 is for

Various modifications of AVG core.
- February 12, 2004 -

which in my opinion normally require a restart

AVG is slow- it took me four atemps to get it as it kept on saying please establish internet connection.

There appears to be two files, the first one downloaded at 06:12 this morning which was 22KB in size which returned Virus Database 371, no restart required, updated again at 17:08 which was 751KB in size, which required a restart but the Database remained at 371, looks like it's this second file that modifies the components.
