Avast! slow to start

Since we installed a Netgear Modem Wireless Router everything has been working fine except one small thing: at boot-up the Avast! globe comes up with a small no-entry sign attached which disappears after perhaps 5 seconds and then normal service is resumed.
Is this normal, or can I do something to fix it?

Is the router switched off when the computer is not in use?

It is,brundle. Always.

I`ve tried Add/Remove Programs > change/remove > repair but it seems to have made no difference.

Most likely your router/PC is still in the process of establishing an internet connection when Avast looks for an update - it also means no nasties can get into your PC at that moment.

That would explain the delay, right enough. I unistalled then re-installed it this morning but it made no difference to the delay time. I think I`ll just have to accept that is how it works now.
