Avast shot itself in the foot?

  Zurdo 18:38 04 Feb 2011

Avast today flagged up the file aswclear5.exe in my downloads folder as an infection. Seems a bit strange seeing as the file is the avast uninstall utility downloaded from their own site ages ago. Any way something else could have infected this file?

"avast uninstall utility"

of course it see its as a threat
any file designed to interfere with AVast could be a virus trying to disable the Antivirus program

Yeah I can see that Fruit Bat........my point is why out of the blue has it flagged it up when the file has been there for ages without it being seen as a threat.

Could be a new file definition update that has some sort of association to this, so it's seeing it for the first time...

Yes could be a bug, I use Fee Avast on all my Personal computers but not had the problem

  woodchip 19:18 04 Feb 2011

I very rarely run it, Have you run Avast for it to show?

Thanks rawprawn..............didn't see that thread. Anyway I deleted the file and Avast has run a deep scan and the comp . comes up clean.
Thanks to everybody who replied.
