Avast Removal Problem

  marcbryant 11:46 18 Apr 2006

I have recently removed avast anti virus from my computer and replaced it with avg anti virus. Now when I start outlook 2000 on another identity on the same PC it tells me that it cannot install or load the following:

C:\program files\alwil software\avast4\ashOutXt.dll

Can anybody tell me how to get rid of this annoying prompt? I am running Windows XP. Many thanks.

If you are comfortable fiddling with the registry, go run > regedit. Search the registry for "avast" and delete any entries that show up.

Still no joy. I assume that there is something within outlook that is trying to initiate avast at start up. There must be a way I can stop this process!

Check MSCONFIG from run. Startup tab. Also check Services you can stop it there

Log into the account with the problem, install Avast, select all options (or at least make sure the standard shield and outlook/exchange plugin is included), reboot, back into the same account, stop all the resident providers except standard shield and select `persist changes`, reboot again, un-install avast.
