Hi
3 months ago i set up security on my friends laptop. I put on Avast Home edition, it has now expired and i went over to re-install but we have a problem.

when we log on to the laptop an error appears quoting "IE3SH Application - bho.dll" - what is this?
then load up a web page and the avg screen appears saying "you have errors- the errors are 2: adware generic4.lgq. so i try to sent to vault and remove and it says "warning, forced removal can cause laptop to crash" - or something like that!
and i try to clear it and it does indeed freeze...

suggestions appreciated.

thanks

Avast home edition is free

Just uninstall what is installed and install this free version

I suggest you download Free Avast and register it for him, load it on is computer and put the reg key into Avast after Removing the one you put on that as now run out. He needs to re-register every twelve months to keep using Avast Free version

Don't forget Remove Old Avast before trying to install the Free one

If its the free edition he has,and it has expired then just register it,a serial number will be sent by email.

"I put on Avast Home.." then you say "avg screen appears.."

You cannot install and run two antivirus programs at the same time.

thanks for responses. but what about the 2 viruses?
if i uninstall and reinstall that wont clear them... will it!?
surely i need to clear the viruses first?

thanks

If you have two running antivirus programs they will be conflicting and may even show one or other as a virus. Uninstall one of them. Update the one that's left and run a full scan.

but we only have the one antivirus programme at the moment...

Have you ever used AVG?

Avast would deal with it if you downloaded latest version removed old one and install the New as old may have got corrupted
