I had a new version of Avast free today - version 10.0.2208. Tried and I hope succeeded to avoid the paid for version as I have the pro version of Malawarebytes for on line scanning . On top of 17 Windows 7 updates It took a bit of care to do.

I use avast which is usually updated daily on two machines.

Yet a couple of days ago, I was notified that a 2015 version was now in the offering. Wonder why the daily updates don't download the new version, which it did in the past?.

For those using Avast Anti-Virus, free or paid for, please take care if updating the programme (not the virus definitions).

There have been occurrences of high CPU usage (100%!) after a recent programme update. See the link below to the Avast Forum for more information.

I'm using the paid for version of Avast 2014 so haven't been notified as yet regarding the 2015 version. No doubt I will receive some offers soon as my subscription comes to an end.

The free version I have is 2015.10.0.2208. Seems to have a limited time period of one year from installation? I my case from August this year when I switched this PC from Avira.

I checked the CPU usage. Avast in the background used about 11-12000 Kb and whilst running about 30 - 38 KB. This compares with iexplore at 152000 and svhost at 137000 of the total of around 50% in use (about 1.6 GB)
