I appear to be infected with the "AV System Care" Malware. I have searched the web for a fix but it appears to be very complicated. Also I am not sure whether to trust some of the advice or programs suggested.

I am registered blind and struggle to follow very technical instructions. Can anyone please help by suggesting a well-known and reputable program that can fix this problem.

Many Thanks,

Ian

Many thanks to all who replied. I found an earlier thread on this forum that suggested Superspyware catcher and it has appeared to have sorted the pop up messages and much more besides.

However, I have a possibly connected problem with IE 7.0. In the menu for Tools and Internet Options a click on this brings up a quick flash of the screen for the options and then it disappears. Is this to do with AV or do I have more spyware prooblems?

again, your help will be nuch appreciated.

Hi harrisonclan, try downloading AVG antispyware program from here:

once installed, click on the 'Update' option at top of page.

Next, click on 'Scanner' then Settings' make sure there is a tick in every box on the lefthand side of the page.

On the righthand side of the page, I have ticks under

REPORTS

Automatically generate a log after everyscan.

and under

WHAT TO SCAN?

there is a tick in 'Every box'.

Once you have done this go back to the Scanner option and click on Complete System Scan.

This make take sometime to scan but it does find most spyware.

Another program I've found most helpful is called SiteHound, it monitors the sites you go on and if the site is on its Blacklist of undesireable sites it warns you.

just download it via the download button at the top of the page. Its quite a long download so bear with it.

You could still have infections. Does Superantispyware come back clean if you run another scan?

Did you disable system restore after running the scan before reboot?

Have you checked msconfig (Start > Run > msconfg) for any unidentified entries, usually a random seriers of letters ending .exe
