Automatic Updates Query.

A few days ago I had to start up in 'Safe' mode and saw a line containing 'XPSP2'.
Does this mean I only have Service Pack 2 installed?
Next I decided to do a custom update as I don't want to install IE 7, had it in but kept getting glitches so un-installed and everything seems ok.

The custom install box shows the following updates.
1/ Cumulative update for IE 6 (kb947864)
2/Definition update for Windows Defender (kb915597)(Definition 1.339651.0)
3/Security update for Microsoft Publisher 2002 (kb950129)
4/Security update for Microsoft Word 2002(kb950243)
5/Security update for Windows XP (kb950749)
6/IE 7 for Windows XP (de-selected this one for the above reasons).
7Windows malicious software removal tool May 2008 (kb890830)

How do I install SP3 if it is not in this list and do I really need it?
I am running XP Home with 1Gb ram, AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 250Gb hard drive

Thanks in advance.

You would be better off without SP3 at the minute! If I remember correctly WU scans your PC and decides if SP3 will conflict with any hardware or software you have installed. If it detects a conflict it will not be available to download.

Thanks Ditch. I'm happy with the way things are running at the moment and believe in the saying, "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Will leave alone.
