Auto update - tries to download same update again.

It keep trying to download and install the Windows Media Player scripting fix again..

I have installed it 4 times now, and it sucessfully completes, but after a reastart it wants to download the same update again?

How can I stop this without getting rid of auto-update?

I am sure I read about this problem a few weeks back, but I cannot find it.

Regards,
Gareth

any suggestions?

1. Download & install Belarc Advisor (600kb-freeware) click here . Install & run the program. Look at the system report it generates. It lists all installed 'hotfixes' & which, if any, haven't installed correctly.

2. If the WMP hotfix has been installed correctly you can disable this particular update from showing up again on the Win Update webpage.

PS - There may be another way - I do the above. Hope it helps.

I had the same problem up untill two or three days ago(see links below).I installed spybot s+d and ran it and it found two registry changes relating to media player,I removed them and the problem seems to have resolved itself.
I hope this is of some use.

Hi,

I have Spybot S & D, I am very paranoid you see ;-)

But it still does not solve the problem./

I have just read the posts, and I might try that Kellys XP corner trick.
