I have recently started a degree at bath university, my pc is connected via the uni network to the web. IE/Firefox/Msn have no problems connecting, the issue lies when i try to run any auto-updater for sophos, sbybot, za & a2, is there a way i can fix this before i go and pester the uni computing services?

Chaces are they have a filtering system in operation that prevents certain programs from updating.

A friend recently found he couldn't get Windows updates any more and after several days of trying this and that was about to format his hard drive when I suggested we look at his shiny new Linksys router.

It's ActiveX filtering was preventing automatic updates from running.
