audio malfunction

When an audio cd is playing, sound is barely audible. I have checked volume, software and properties and system files and all seems well.

What might the problem be?

Have you Enabled digital sound for audio CDs?

Depending on the age of your motherboard, you might have to use an audio cable between the CD drive and your onboard sound/sound card.
