Attachments in E-Mail messages

Some emails have the attachment sent as an integral part of the message (inside the email along with the message) and other emails have attachments as linked to the email, where you know you have an attachment but you cannot see it unless you click on the paperclip symbol

I want to do the second option only, but in my case my attachments are integral

Can someone please advise how to mandate either way.

I think if you change tools, options, read ... to view in plain text only, that might be the answer.
