Athlon upgrade

  VonRyansExpress 19:38 10 Feb 2006

My pc has an ECS K7S5A mobo and an Athlon XP2000+ cpu. I am intending to fit a XP2400+ cpu. The mobo can accept up to XP2600+ according to the specs I've found on the internet. Would the job just entail changing the cpu or are adjustments necessary? i.e. BIOS settings or anything like that?

Should just go, the most it'll need is a reset, this can be done by taking the CMOS battery out for 10 mins. Have fun! :P

CMOS battery? Whassat? Where is it?

Do not take the CMOS battery out. The difference between the 2000 and the 2400 is listed here click here the multiplier for the 2400 needs to be set at 15 for the 2000 it should have been set at 12.5. Post back if you're unsure how to do this.

By the way, unless you already have the faster chip its not a huge jump in performance. To be honest I don't think you'll notice much difference. The best and most cost effective way to improve performance on a PC is to add more memory.

How much memory are you using at the moment?.

I have 512Mb DDR at present.
How do I change the multiplier setting then?
