Asus MB Memory upgrade

  5ean 19:40 11 Nov 2006

I have an ASUS A7N266C with 2x 256 ram & AthlonXP1700 G-Force 6200 (256MB)

My planned upgrades are to

XP2600 (I have flashed the bios to support this)
1.5GB Ram

The problem with the ram is socket 3 can only support single sided ram. The other 2 slots cannot take more than 512 each.

Worst case is i will end up with 1GB but I'd like to know where i can get single sided ram. I have looked at all the usual places.

I think I need 2100 or any backwards compatible stuff.

Is it worth it?

Cheers :-)

Have you tried crucial? click here I would be surprised if they could not supply suitable sticks of RAM for your MB. Use the scanner facility, it will scan your PC and come up with recommended RAM. You could also try suppliers like Kingston, Elixir and Corsair, who all have memory selectors on their websites.

Thank you, I haven't tried manufacturer direct. I will now.

What the scan does not report is that the 3rd slot won't take double sided chips.

on my link posted, Crucial state:

'We recommend using a maximum of two modules, installed in banks 1&2 for optimum performance. Using three DIMMs may result in a performance loss of 25% or more due to chipset limitations.'
