Asus laptop randomly restarting

  m800afc 15:02 17 Nov 2008

Asus M6VA Intel Pentium M: Win XP Pro: SP3.

My laptop on being shut down, randomly restarts, often several times. This has been happening for about two weeks. It makes no difference whether I shut down using the normal dialog box or using the task manager. The only software I have added is Comodo firewall.
Any ideas for solving this will be gratefully received.

If its since the Firewall, remove it to see if it sorts it

Two years old, and it is sat on a cooler, so it is as cool as they come. No, I don't use it in bed..(the laptop that is) ;-)

Removed Comodo, made no difference, reinstalled Comodo.

I have also checked the auto start-up progs, and nothing stands out.

Have a look in Event Viewer, it may point you in the right direction

I ran sfc /scannow, after copying i386 into C:/.
This did the trick, and for the moment my laptop is back to normal.
Thanks for the help.
