Partially sighted silver surfer (sight degrading fast) wants help to get software for both magnification and voice. Any ideas please?

The first one is called - increase the text size in whichever application (Word, IE, etc) you're using.

The second one is called - turn the volume up.

Or have I misunderstood your question?

I have no experience of this and only found via a Google search click here

Both xp and Vista have a Magnifier inbuilt.

RNIB have some helpful guidance for people with sight problems click here
Software to read the text on the screen can be a help. There are expensive pieces of software but Windows comes with Narrator.
What monitor are you using?

click here is an excellent free screen reader which doesn't rely on the standard Windows XP narrator

I am involved with a local society for the blind (and partially sighted) we provide several different types of PC software and audio stuff to users in our area including for those with no sight at all. We're in Southern part of Cumbria. Don't know where you live, but check out whether there is any similar society in your area and contact them. Local hospital may know contact details (our Soc runs a help-desk at our local hospital eye clinic), or your GP may have info.
One little thing - Ask anyone emailing you or sending docs as attachments to use font size 16 or 18 and to use a yellow background.
